Keep water rates affordable for St. Louis.
St. Louis will continue to raise water rates unless something is done to make operations more efficient. For example, the city’s water consumption is roughly 1,200 gallons per customer, per day – almost triple the average for comparable cities. This wastes electricity and chemicals – and it costs taxpayer money.
Under Veolia’s proposal, the city would continue to own its infrastructure, the workforce would continue to stay public, and the city would continue to set rates. Veolia’s proposal would save 15% of costs annually – without layoffs. Veolia would review the city’s high water usage, and see if it can be brought into line with other cities.
